Beware the Blogs of March: Description of Blogging Assignment

Your group has been assigned a topic to trace as we read Julius Caesar. You are to become experts on this topic, analyzing characters, symbols, quotations, and events that are key to its development. Ultimately, you will shape this topic into a theme statement (in sentence form). You will be creating a blog about your topic as we read the play. Please use the Topic Tracing Chart to take notes as we read and record information that pertains to your topic.

Technology Note: We will provide some guidance and tutorial assistance for your groups as you create your blogs. We will also be scheduling a few days for your groups to use laptops to type up and post your entries.

Requirements:
1. Each group must post at least 12 entries. Each group member will be responsible for completing at least two of those entries. We will assign blog writing topics and activities along the way, but it will be up to your group to decide who will write and post each entry.

2. We do not want one person taking control of the group. If this happens, please let us know as soon as possible. All topics/activities need to be discussed within the group before posting.

3. You must set up your blog in a way that reflects your chosen topic. This includes graphics, font selections, background colors, etc. Please cite the source of any information you draw from the Internet or elsewhere.

4. Each person in your group must make at least two comments on other groups’ blogs. Please make sure all comments are appropriate and respectful.

The final product must demonstrate a keen understanding of the topic you have chosen, including deep analyses of key characters, symbols, quotations, and events that are pertinent to this topic.

Some Basic Rules:
1. Never put your name or image on the blog, only your chosen nickname

2. Always use appropriate civil discourse. One of the unfortunate things that seems to occur with “online discourse” is the willingness to say things that you would not be willing to say to someone’s face. No trash talk will be tolerated! As the administrators, we will remove any inappropriate content and give your group a zero on the blog project if you do not follow this basic rule.

3. Cite sources! If you find a cool image or video, that’s great. Just make sure to note where it came from. This can be done in the form of a parenthetical citation.
